The bee’s comb, or foundation as it is called in the industry, is a fatty absorbent complex waxy material manufactured by the bees. The cells within the comb are where the bees store the pollen and process the nectar and pollen into honey. The queen bee lays her eggs in these cells.
The Pasteur’s, Dow’s, Owens’s, and Lister’s of the world met the challenge by flooding us with a chemical war chest that can only be admired and appreciated by Dr. Jeckle and the late Mr. Hussein. The first problem with this is that the honeycomb absorbs the chemicals. These chemicals can leach into our honey.
Now we all remember those nice folks that brought us asbestos, silicone implants and cyclamate’s, (just to name a few familiar household products) Well, they are now saying that the P.P.M.s of chemical contamination in our honey are not yet at a level to be concerned over. They say the industry can control this by replacing the foundation every three years. Oops! That’s a cost factor. I do not want to trust all producers to do that.
